I can’t compete with the cheesefest you’ll be offered on eurovision this evening, but here’s a selection of tracks we’ve been loving this week all the same.

Ariana Grande ft Iggy Azalea – Problem

One hell of a saxophone loop launches us straight into Crazy in Love meets Candyman this week, via one of the biggest vocals this year. The whispering bit is quite weird though.

Kasabian – Eez Eh

After the initial anticlimactic realisation that all this cryptic numbers stuff was just them naming their album after the length of their album, Glastonbury’s hairy headliners Kasabian release the first single from 48:13. It sounds like they brought their cans of stella along for a night out with Hot Chip

Bipolar Sunshine

Chill merchant Bipolar Sunshine gives Lorde’s Team a staccato turn in a wonderful little cover.

Coldplay – A Sky Full Of Stars

Listen, I’m having a bizarre urge to stress that generic singles don’t necessarily equate to weak singles. In unrelated news, here’s Coldplay’s new track and it’s been produced by bloody Avicii.

MAUI – Imagine Witches

A fuzzy indie-rock number from London based youngsters, which gives nods both to the city’s past triumphs in the genre, as well as to bands like Cloud Nothings and other modern front runners across the pond. In Imagine Witches, special mention should go to the Even Flow style breakdown section where after being stripped back to it’s bare bones the track builds right back up to a mean ol’ riff.

BANKS – Goddess

The ever brilliant and brooding LA songstress BANKS returns with returns with a new effort that drips with confidence (“cause she’s a goddess you shoulda saw this“). This single, Goddess, also comes with the promise of a September album of the same name.

Ella Henderson – Ghost

And finally, a belter from one of the X Factor’s most promising exports yet.
