Music in London: This Week’s Best TracksBy Toby Leston
The best music in London this week brought to you by Ben Woodcock:
alt J – Hunger Of The Pine
Mercury Music Prize winner’s alt-J kick-off proceedings with the commanding ‘Hunger Of The Pine’, featuring the mysterious sample, “I’m a female rebel”, from Miley Cyrus’ track, ‘4×4’. The Nabil-directed video plays out ‘beautiful violence’ in an unforgettable 3m46s.
Amber Run – I Found (Video)
Sticking with powerful music, Nottingham five-piece Amber Run have dropped their video for the delicate and emotionally-charged track, “I Found”. Poignant piano plays backdrop to the standout vocals and lyrics of Joe Keogh. (“I found love where it wasn’t supposed to be / Right in front of me / Talk some sense to me…”).
Cold War Kids – All This Could Be Yours (Audio Stream)
From downbeat and dark to bouncing piano and explosive vocals – Cold War Kids are back with a bang with, ‘All This Could Be Yours’. The booming rock guitars serve to warm fans up in preparation for a fifth studio-album release in October. Dare you to find a catchier chorus this week.
Foxes – Glorious ( Great Good Ok Fine remix) (Audio Stream)
Tempo is turned-up a notch in this groovy remix of Glorious by Brooklyn duo, ‘Great Good Fine Ok’. Resulting from the remix is a safe pop tune turned nightclub banger. Throwback dance party anyone?!
Saint Pepsi – Fiona Coyne (Video)
Playing us out is a perfect summer pop tune from Saint Pepsi. Funky bass combines with a brass section and catchy guitar. Maybe this song just might move you, a little bit..
