From a bakery festival to a Sri Lankan masterclass –  we’ve handpicked the best events happening in the capital this weekend. Happy exploring, London:

1. For Meat Madness: Meatopia

What: Returning to Tobacco Dock this weekend (1st-3rd September), there’s much more going on at Meatopia than just the finest cuts of quality meat, although, admittedly that is the top draw. Take a break from your carnivorous escapades and enjoy live music, DJs, informal workshops, street theatre and chef talks, then get straight back to the meat.

Why: This year’s stellar line up of chefs cooking up a storm with fish, veg and, of course, the highest-quality meat cooked over ethically-sourced wood and charcoal, includes Nathan Outlaw, Yotam Ottolenghi, Nate Green from Rhoda in Hong Kong, Ash Heeger from Ash in Cape Town, Richard H Turner, Jose Pizarro, Selin Kiazim,  Nud Dudhia from Breddos and many more.

Why: The festivities will kick off with a huge all-day party on Saturday 2nd September at Bread Ahead Borough Market. The event will run from 10.00am – 5pm and will be packed full of activities, from signings of the brand new cookbook, Bread Ahead: Baking School, to live demos and the launch of their limited edition summer fruit pavlova doughnut, with a passion fruit crush to celebrate their birthday. The doughnut will be exclusive to Bread Ahead Borough Market for one day only – so get it while you can. On 2nd September, anyone who buys a copy of the new book will receive one free.

3. For an All Day Party: Elefest

The annual mix of film, street food and live music will celebrate the past, present and future of SE17, with Alabama 3 Acoustic headlining the live stage, and south London’s very own legendary Don Letts as headline DJ.

Why: Elefest will run from midday to late and, as well as a headline set of ‘country, delta, gospel blues’ from Alabama 3 Acoustic, will feature local walking tours where visitors can explore Charlie Chaplin’s childhood haunts, dance workshops, children’s storytelling sessions and a sunset outdoor screening of The Wizard of Oz. And they’ll be plenty of street food and drinks to keep attendees well oiled.
