Top 5: Ice Cream Sandwiches in LondonBy Alicia Grimshaw
With summer only around the corner, it’s time to delve into some frozen treats. We’re not talking about your classic Mr Whippy’s, but ice cream sandwiches. Here’s the best ice cream sandwiches in London – you know what to do:
1. For the Fruity Sandwich: Spuntino
Order: Peanut butter and jelly sandwich dessert (£6)
The Sandwich: This is as delicious and naughty as it sounds. The ‘sandwich’ isn’t actually bread, but basically red fruit jam in between two layers of delicious peanut butter ice cream. What’s not to like? Spuntino is a great date spot, and this dessert is sure to make sparks fly.
Where: 61 Rupert Street, Soho, London, W1D 7PW
2. For the Soft Serve Sandwich: Heddon Street Kitchen
Order: Ice Cream Sandwich – Chocolate chip cookie base, soft serve ice cream, coconut shavings, caramel and chocolate sauce (£7)
The Sandwich: Heddon Street Kitchen is another string to Gordon Ramsay’s forever growing bow. A European brasserie serving breakfast, brunch, right through until dinner. Their ice cream sandwich served from their retro ice cream parlour upstairs starts with the chocolate chip cookie base and is filled with a generous serving of soft serve. Choose between any flavour from ice cream machine to fill the centre, topped off with caramel and chocolate sauce – a winning combination.
Where: 3-9 Heddon Street, London W1B 4BE
3. For the Simple Sandwich: The Cinnamon Parlour
Order: Ice Cream Sandwich – Ice cream waffles coated on the inside with milk chocolate and a choice of filling (£5)
The Sandwich: The classic and well-loved choc ice has just been given a very jazzy makeover. The Cinnamon Parlour is a spin off from the chaps behind Cinnamon Kitchen. So you may not instantly think a contemporary Indian restaurant known for its innovative dishes would serve an ice cream sandwich – you were wrong. Their ice cream sandwich is a thick, creamy layer of ice cream, choose between chocolate, vanilla or cinnamon flavours which is then sandwiched between two chocolate waffles. There’s no need for extravagant flavours when it tastes this good.
Where: 9 Devonshire Square, London EC2M 4YL
4. For the Caramel Sandwich: The Elk in the Woods
Order: Homemade popcorn ice cream sandwich with salted caramel (£5.50)
The Sandwich: If you’re into exposed brickwork, stained wood and a large collection of mirrors – The Elk in the Woods is for you. Alongside their decor, they have a cracking breakfast menu and their sandwiches are pretty dreamy too. Their ice cream sandwich is a party for the mouth, homemade popcorn with salted caramel all married together with ice cream and bread. This is one sandwich that truly doesn’t disappoint.

5. For the Chocolate Sandwich: Chin Chin Labs
Order: The Brown-Wich
The Sandwich: Word on the street is that Chin Chin Labs is Europe’s first-ever Liquid Nitrogen Ice-Cream Parlour. They make their ice cream using liquid nitrogen and it’s like watching a science experiment. Their ice cream is super smooth and full of flavour. The brown-wich is their signature ice cream in between two of their home-made brownies. Seriously, seriously good.
