National Burger Day 2018: 5 Vegan Burgers We’re Loving in London Right NowBy Alicia Grimshaw
We’re leaving no stone unturned when it comes to National Burger Day 2018. We love burgers, regardless of meat content. If you’re looking for your next vegan burger fix, here’s the best plant-based burgers we’re loving in London right now:
1. For a Jackfruit Burger: Biff’s Jack Shack
Order: The Samuel Hell Jackson – crispy fried jackfruit burger, chipotle slaw, maple chipotle hot sauce, jalapeños, burger cheese and BBQ sauce (£8.50)
The 411: The team at Biff’s Jack Shack are wizards – because what they’re knocking up is pure magic. If you think vegan food is dull, you need to get your chops round their vegan junk food: it’s knock your socks off, filthy. They’re dishing up some of the best vegan food in London, there’s no doubt about that. Their Samuel Hell Jackson is a burger available from their new summer menu, and it’s a cacophony of tastes; crispy jackfruit, spicy relish, and smokey BBQ sauce – all sandwiched between a shiny broiche bun. Come here for the biggest, baddest and filthiest vegan menu in London.

2. For Classic Burgers: Big V London
Order: Big V Facon Cheeseburger – big V burger with house tomato relish, house burger sauce, pickles red onion, vegan cheddar and house maple facon (£8)
The 411: Big V are thoughtful about many things: they source their produce from the closest location possible, preparing all burgers, relishes and burger sauces from scratch. No shortcuts. No gimmicks. The outcome is other-worldly: plant-based burgers that you don’t need to be vegan to appreciate. Never have the use of veggies tasted so good. Whatever your stance on vegan bacon is, it works in this cheeseburger.

3. For Soul Satisfying Burgers: The Vurger Co
Order: Holy Habanero – spicy corn fritter with slaw, tortilla, chips, spiced almonds and house chilli mayo (£8.45)
The 411: The Vurger Co know their buns. And burgers. In fact, they bang out some of the tastiest and naughtiest plant-based burgers in the capital. Packed full of goodness and feel-good ingredients, The Holy Habanero burger is a Mexican fiesta for your tastebuds – a bit of crunch from the almonds, a hefty corn fritter, and house-made chilli mayo that just brings everything together. Order an Oreo milkshake, their rich mac n’ cheese and sweet potato fries for a full blown banquet.

4. For Comfort Food: Rudy’s Dirty Vegan Diner
Order: Dirty Burger – cheeze, pickles, lettuce, baycon, and fried onions (£7)
The 411: It’s apt that this place is called Rudy’s Dirty Vegan Diner, as the menu features US comfort food classics with a vegan spin: think spicy buffalo chick’n burger, BBQ seitan ribs and loaded fries with burnt ends. This burger is one nostalgic bite; like the cheeseburger you used to eat at half time at a football match, the kind of burger you’d get from a greasy van at a fireworks display – you get the picture. Although, this one is totally plant-based, and well, gristle-free. Come here for dirty vegan bliss.

5. For a Mexican Burger: The Full Nelson
Order: Luchadore Burger – seitan patty, house guacamole, sour cream, tangy salsa and jalapeño (£8.50)
The 411: The Full Nelson is a mecca of tasty treats. And by tasty we mean juicy fried ‘chicken’ burgers, chips covered in a mountain of pulled ‘pork’ with lashings of coleslaw and pickles, and deep-fried Oreos. Back by popular demand, the Luchadore Burger is back on the menu, and if you missed it the first time around, you’d be silly to miss out again. The setain patty has real texture – crispy yet soft, and the salsa is sweet yet spicy. It’s a decent burger, done properly.
