With cheap flights running pretty much every week from Luton airport (thank you Easy Jet), a long weekend away to Berlin should certainly be on the cards. Berlin is one of Europe’s most liveliest cities; a mix of the best club nights in Germany, the finest kebabs this side of Turkey and of course, a forever changing landscape and an interesting history. In a nutshell – Berlin is 100% our type on paper. And with any European break, you need somewhere to stay. If you don’t want to break the budget, but still crave a decent night’s kip – we think it’s about time you paid Mövenpick Hotel a visit. Here’s what you need to know:

Mövenpick Hotel: The Lowdown

Firstly, the location is unbeatable. Situated near Potsdamer Platz in the city centre, and just 100 metres from the Anhalter Bahnhof S-Bahn train station – getting to and from the airport has never been easier. No need to lug your worldly possessions across the city, as the airport is only 25 minutes away.

Housed in Berlin’s former Siemens building, the hotel combines a touch of history with modern amenities. Ideal for families, couples, friends, and businessmen, the hotel boasts a sauna, indoor pool and gym. That is, of course,  you fancy working up a sweat on your holiday.

If you prefer to lift a glass of wine than a dumbbell, the hotel is home to an impressive glass-roofed restaurant and bar, and an outdoor patio space which turns into a sun trap in the afternoon. It was made for an early evening glass of iced cold Riesling.

Mövenpick Hotel: The Rooms

With over 243 rooms in the hotel – there’s plenty of choice on offer.  The classic rooms have everything you could want from a night’s stay: comfortable furniture, coffee and tea making facilities, a spacious bathroom, and mini toiletries. The rooms may not be the most fashionable, but they’re clean, comfortable and don’t have paper thin walls (winner).

If you’re willing to splurge the holiday budget, the suites are simply divine. Boasting views over the historic Anhalter Bahnhof, the suites not only has a king-size bed and separate living room – but also a complimentary minibar, its own lounge and can easily accommodate up to four adults.

Mövenpick Hotel: Breakfast

The breakfast buffet is exceptional; there’s more pastries that Pret, and freshly made omelettes on demand. Get started for the day ahead with local cheese, yogurt, breads of various kinds, juices, salad, and cured meats. Remember: a breakfast buffet is a marathon and not a sprint… don’t load up too much, as there’s pancakes and waffles (topped with local honey, don’t you know).

And props to Mövenpick Hotel for putting on a spread for the dairy-free and vegan babes. There’s soya yogurt, vegan cheese (!), and loads of other plant-based treats.

Mövenpick Hotel: The Verdict

You can’t really fault Mövenpick Hotel; the staff are friendly (so much so that they’ll organise you lunch to take on the plane), the breakfast buffet is sublime and the rooms do just the job. When you pit the hotel against other boutique places in the city, it’s not going go to win first prize on looks – but we’re ok with that. Here it’s far more substance over style, and we ain’t complaining.
