Terranea Resort Review: The Lowdown
Terranea is a world unto itself; a 102-acre private peninsula paradise, it’s a tropical oasis that’s far removed from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles. Worlds away from the city with its traffic, crowds and no-reservation restaurants, this resort is peaceful and calm. Terranea is the break from the city you’ve been dreaming of – a beautifully maintained, high-end resort, with all the luxury facilities and amenities you could want. What to expect? Well, on three sides, you’ll be surrounded by the tranquil waves of the Pacific Ocean, birdsong and sunshine. The hotel has a beautiful coastal setting, which is reflected in its architecture and design. There’s so many great spots in the hotel to soak up the view (and the sun) – from the resort lobby with outdoor fireplaces to private terraces and roaming gardens. Step inside the hotel and you’ll instantly be transformed to a lush, green paradise that’s just waiting to be discovered.
Terranea Resort Review: The Accommodation
There’s a great range of accommodation at the resort, which all has a private, residential feel. Each spacious guest room and suite has its own private balcony, with great ocean views – you can also expect free WiFi, turndown service, in-room tea and coffee, daily yoga and fitness classes and much more. Their entry-level rooms are fantastic – the guest rooms at the hotel can be resort view, ocean-view or oceanside, according to your preference, and all feature separate baths and showers, flat-screen TVs and private balcony. If you’d like to splash out, the suites at the resort are really something special. Suites can be oceanside or ocean-view, taking up an impressive 900 square feet, with luxurious linens, separate living room area, in-room bar filled with wine and premium snacks and private patio.

The homes, which can be rented as 1, 2 or 3-bedrooms homes, include a kitchen, living room and laundry facilities – the perfect option for a family holiday or entertaining guests. Dreamy.
Terranea Resort Review: The Spa
Of course, in a beautiful setting such as this, you’ll be forgiven for wanting to indulge in a spot of pampering. The spa at the resort is so beautiful – overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Palos Verdes coastline, with views of the ocean and sunsets. It’s huge, too – spanning over 50,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, the spa is home to 25 treatment rooms, a fitness and wellness center, a Spa Café and salon. It’s the perfect place to come and relax, with everything from facials to bespoke massages with high-end products. You could easily spend the day at the spa; there’s some great facilities, including saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools, cold plunges, and fire pits in indoor and outdoor spa lounges. For the ultimate couples seclusion, you can visit one of three luxurious VIP suites for a proper spa day in style. We’re in love.
Terranea Resort Review: The Facilities
There’s so much to do at the hotel, you’ll be totally spoilt for choice. It’s the perfect place to come with all the family, as there’s activities for kids and big kids alike – everything from swimming to ping pong by the pool. For fitness enthusiasts, there’s a great 5,000-square-foot gym and daily timetable of fitness classes, featuring beach yoga, TRX, aqua conditioning and more. On land, you can enjoy horseback riding and scenic guided bike rides in the beautiful surrounding area, or get your swing down at The Links – one of the country’s top-rated championship par 3 golf course. On the water, there’s everything from surfing lessons to ocean kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding, all organised and hosted by the hotel. With such stunning landscape surrounding the hotel in Palos Verdes, you might also just want to spend the day by the pool, watching the ocean and drinking a Pina Colada – and hey, that’s OK too.
Terranea Resort Review: The Food
In such a beautiful Southern California setting, you’d expect nothing but great food at Terranea – and that’s exactly what you’ll get. There’s a huge range of restaurants at the hotel – eight restaurants, in fact – spanning everything from Asian cuisine to fine-dining. From romantic dinners to child-friendly dinners, there’s something for everyone here. With stunning views of the ocean from the restaurants, dining here is a real treat. For fine-dining, mar’sel is the most gourmet option in the resort – offering an extensive haute cuisine menu and wine list, for a special occasion.
For a great, casual restaurant, catalina kitchen is the hotel’s Mediterranean-inspired all-day spot, offering up pastas, flatbreads, fresh salads and delicious breakfasts. And if you’re in the mood for Asian feasting, bashi is the place to go – this Asian-inspired restaurant serves up delicious wok-fried items, sushi and sake, all in an ocean-facing setting.
Terranea Resort Review: Our Verdict
We loved this resort in Palos Verde; it’s the perfect mix of relaxing and fun, with some world-class facilities that make staying here a real pleasure. The food, spa and accommodation at the resort is second to none, and only slightly overshadowed by the breathtaking natural beauty of the surrounding area. If you’re looking for a very special break outside LA, we cannot recommend Terranea Resort more.
