Top 5: Things You Need to Do This Week in LondonBy Rishma Dosani
“What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.” – John Steinbeck
It may be cold, but that’s no excuse to stay inside with a pasta bake watching TV, London. There’s some fantastic events and activities on in the capital this week, here’s our pick of the best:
1. Celebrate Music, Art + Culture in Deptford
What: If you want a pop-up with a difference, why not pop into Deptford Stories? The festival showcases the lives of people around the area, and celebrates art, theatre, music, and the past, present, and future of the famous town. If you want to experience the true culture of London, and what makes the city truly multicultural, from the young to the old, this is perfect for you.
Where: If you haven’t figured it out by now, Deptford Stories will be taking place in…. Deptford! Head to the Anthology Foundry, Arklow Road Trading Estate, London SE14 6EB. Take a trip south of the river, you won’t regret it.
When: The festival will be running from the 1st – 16th November. And, in case you needed MORE convincing, there will be craft beer, expertly brewed coffee, and a Rig&Rig hog roast. More information can be found here.
2. Attend a Free Fireworks Party at Southwark Park
What: In case you hadn’t realised, what with the strangely sunny weather, it’s actually November! Which means one thing: fireworks. We know how the night usually goes, huddled together in a mangy park somewhere in London in the freezing cold, watching pathetic fizzles. Worry no more and head to Southwark Park to witness some of the best fireworks the city has to offer – for free. There will also be music, a bonfire and a light display on the night, we can just imagine the Instagram photos already!
Where: Southwark Park plays host to this display, so get your gloves on and your sparklers out, and get yourself down to Canada Water, SE16 2PA.
When: Remember remember the 5th of November!
3. Relive your Childhood at the V&A Museum of Childhood
What: What does your favourite childhood toy say about you? Whether you had a polly pocket, a Barbie doll, a beanie baby, or all three, this exhibition at the V&A Museum of Childhood aims to answer that question, while showing how children of different cultures had very similar, or very different toys. You’ll want to dust off your dolls, unpack your old books and get playing again.
Where: The V&A hosts this most childish of exhibitions. Head down to Cambridge Heath Road, Bethnal Green, London, E2 9PA, to throwback to your childhood.
When: The event is free, but on a first-come first-served basis so get there early! It’s running for the foreseeable future, and opens at 10am daily. Enjoy!
4. Become a Pizza Perfectionist at The Mayfair Pizza Co.
What: Pizza is our favourite thing in the world. Only beaten by Prosecco. But why choose between the two? The Mayfair Pizza Co. are giving you a crash course in how to bake up a storm, taught to you by seasoned pizza experts. AND to top it off, your ticket includes a glass of fizz. Grab your closest friends and try your hand at making your favourite food from scratch. It’ll be a fun night out and could save you some pennies in the long run.

Normally, organised singles nights sound pretty cringe, but this is different, we promise! You’ll be put into groups on arrival, and after some crazy fun, you can have a drink or three in a 1920s bar while discussing your game! Fun, friends and a date, all rolled into one!
